Make it Happen – Global Entrepreneurship Week 2015



Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) takes place from 16-22 November 2015 and there’s a series of events taking place across Belfast to inspire new and existing entrepreneurs.
This year’s theme is Make it Happen. If you’ve ever had an idea for a business or thought you could be your own boss, we want to encourage you to seize the opportunity and make it happen!
Along with our partners, we’re hosting a series of FREE events during Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Belfast Digital Business Club: Innovation

GEW: The one stop event to start a business!

This event is a fantastic opportunity to meet all of the local organisations that will support you on your way to starting a business. During this session you will also have the opportunity to attend short meet the mentor breakout sessions focusing on:

generating new business ideas

Taking place from 12.30 – 1.30 this session will give you the tools to develop new business ideas and give you the techniques to make them real.

small business finance

Taking place from 1.30 – 2.30 this session will allow you to see what is available to finance your small business through traditional and alternative funding options. This workshop will be delivered by Invest Northern Ireland and the Halo network.

marketing on a budget

GEW: Social innovation student challenge

Date: 18 Nov 2015
Time: 12pm - 5pm
Venue: The Hive

This session will challenge up to 50 young people to create innovative solutions to 5 social challenges.

During this event the participants will be introduced to a design thinking method, focused on developing ideas and will be asked to come up with innovative solutions to the challenges.

The day will finish with a short ten minute pitch by the teams.

Lunch and snacks will be provided for all participants and there will be prizes on the day.

BEN: Journey to success

Belfast Entrepreneurs Network (BEN) brings local businesses together in an informal environment to help them generate new contacts, create new business opportunities and share great business ideas.

During this event attendees will hear from local business owners who will share their stories of how they 'made it happen' and their journey to success. Attendees will also have the opportunity to put their questions to the panel and network with other local businesses.

Speakers at this event

Matthew Large is CEO of Glistrr and winner of Enterprise NI Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2014. Glistrr is an event intelligence platform, allowing event organisers to leverage data to maximise their revenues. In the past 12 months Glistrr has processed over 800,000 guests in the UK and Ireland and has recently expanded into US and European markets.

Linzi Rooney is the founder and CEO of Studio Souk which sees the coming together of creative entrepreneurs in a stimulating, supportive and positive environment, in the heart of the city centre. Being inspired by one another, learning, growing and developing professionally together whilst educating the public about the creative processes and the creative talent in our city. Studio souk is not just a high street shop – it is a unique and exciting creative experience.

Danny Turley founded Performa Sports in 2010 which was originally a concept developed from Danny’s undergrad project at the Ulster University which he developed further as part of his Masters in Multidisciplinary Design at the University of Ulster. Danny’s background was that of a performance analyst with the Armagh GAA team and UX designer. Performa Sports was the winner of the Craigavon ‘Most Innovative Business’ award in 2012 and winner of the ‘Growth Potential’ award at the Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011.
